Fake banknotes with a face value of Rs 5.72 lakh seized, two arrested

Agartal: Police have arrested two people in Khowai district of Tripura after counterfeit Indian banknotes with a face value of Rs 5.72 lakh were seized on Sunday, an officer said.

Based on information about the movement of two men on bicycles with fake notes, a police team led by Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO), Teliamura, Sonacharan Jamatia started checking the vehicles to intercept them .

“Sensing in trouble, two men identified as Bajirai Reang (31) and Rakesh Malsom (32) from Taidu area of ​​the same district attempted to abandon their bicycles near the Karoilong gas pump but police officers on duty apprehended them before they could escape. They were taken to Teliamura Police Station for questioning,” the officer said.

During the search, counterfeit Indian banknotes with a face value of Rs 5.72 lakh were seized from the bike, he said.

The fake banknote was denominated in Rs 2000 and Rs 500.

Both were arrested, the officer added.
