Police say four people have been charged in connection with a drug and firearms investigation in Peel Region.
In a press release on Thursday, Peel Regional Police said in the summer of 2021 officers from the Office of Law Enforcement’s Specialist Guns and Gangs Team launched an investigation. on the “crime of a local street gang with close ties to Brampton”.

Police said Project Copper was intended to “investigate the various gang members and their involvement in drug trafficking and gun possession in the Peel and Greater Toronto Area.”
According to police, on March 4, officers from Peel Regional Police and other agencies in Toronto, York, Halton and RCMP executed 11 search warrants in the Greater Toronto Area.

As a result, police said the following items were seized:
- A fully automatic nine-millimeter UZI Mini carbine machine gun with 28 rounds and a modified serial number.
- A loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic Glock pistol containing six rounds.
- Cocaine and hashish with an estimated value of $10,000.
- Coins and jewelry.
- A stolen Jeep Cherokee.

Police say Marlon Penny, 24, of Brampton, was arrested and faces multiple gun and drug charges.
Officers say Penny has been held pending a bail hearing.
Police say Jamar Lewis, 32, of Brampton, was also arrested and faces multiple charges including firearms and drug trafficking. He was also held pending a bail hearing.
Officers said Nicolas McInnis, 28, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police said he was being held pending a bail hearing.
Police say Luigi Callisto, 36, of Brampton has been arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Officers said he was released with a future court date set for May.
